The Women's Dental Association is starting off the year with our first info session on August 31st from 5 pm to 6:30 pm at Student center South in the space city room!

WHEN: Wednesday, August 31st @5 - 6:30 pm
WHERE: Student Center South in the SPACE CITY ROOM. 

Learn how to become a member and all about our leadership opportunities we will have throughout the year. New members will get a chance to win Figs scrubs and gift cards! Free food will be provided at the info session. WDA is looking forward to this upcoming year and all the amazing things we have planned.

Pottery Social (Social Event) 

Come out to our first social event of the year. We will be making handmade pottery together (no experience needed)!! Get to know other pre-dental students from UH. Hone your artistic abilities and manual dexterity skills. Create beautiful art pieces! 

On the dental school application, there are sections that ask about activities you do to strengthen your manual dexterity. Join us & add pottery to the list!

The Beacon (Volunteer Event) 

UH's WDA will be volunteering at The Beacon Homeless Shelter. The Beacon is a non-profit organization that serves the Houston homeless community through daily services, civil legal aid, counseling and mentoring and access to housing. Our mission is to provide essential and next-step services to restore hope and help end homelessness in Houston. Join us in providing the homeless hot homemade meals and clean laundry!

Kujawa Elementry School  (Volunteer Event) 

The UH Women's Dental Club (WDA) will be teaching kids about oral care, nutrition, and careers in dentistry!! This is the first out of many schools that we’re going to visit for our new oral health education program. For the Kujawa Elementary specifically, we will be having around 100 students, so we would really appreciate your help!!

Women's Dental Association - Oral Health Education Program
Our Oral Health Education Program is essentially designed to teach kids around the Houston area about the importance of good oral care and inspire them to pursue a career in dentistry. We hope to revisit them next semester to check up on their progress and see if they’ve retained the information as well.

This will be a great opportunity to show dental schools your dedication to your community, their oral health, and their overall health. Join us in making oral health information more accessible to our underserved communities!

TMOM in Dallas, Tx. (Volunteer Event) 

The Women's Dental Association will be at TMOM Dallas on November 4-5th!! 
Please read everything below VERY CAREFULLY.  

Note that the purpose of this form is to collect the general information we need for the event. Be on the lookout for more updates about TMOM with WDA!! We will be hosting a dinner and some social activities during our time at Dallas as well :D Another form will be sent out in the future to sort out preferences for housing costs, social activities, and more. We hope you can come and volunteer with WDA!!

ONLY fill out this form if you have followed the steps below:
1. Went to https://tmomvolunteer.org/ and clicked on the November 4-5, 2022 TMOM event at Dallas, TX. 
2. Created an account for the event as a COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER.
3. Selected and REGISTERED for either the Friday and/or Saturday AM and PM shifts. 
4. Received a confirmation email that you are able to attend.
Please only attend with your family or guardians permission. If you are a registered dental assistant, you can sign up as a registered dental assistant as well.

ADDITIONAL INFO ABOUT TMOM:
Texas Mission of Mercy (TMOM) is a mobile dental clinic that travels around the state providing charitable basic dental care to Texans with limited resources and/or access to care. Local community support along with dental and non-dental volunteers from across the state come together at the community’s venue. Up to 700 patients may be seen during the 2 day events depending upon the size of the clinic’s set up. Our volunteer dental professionals’ primary focus is on relieving pain and preventing infection by providing extractions, fillings, and cleanings. In limited cases, replacing missing front teeth or repairing partial dentures may be available to restore a smile.

SmileCon 2022 Dental Event (Volunteer Event)

The Women's Dental Association at UH will be volunteering at SmileCon 2022, a dental event hosted by the American Dental Association (ADA)! This is the ultimate event for dental professionals, and many dentists from all over the country will be attending this conference. Participate & get your face recognized! You never know who you'll meet. This is also the first time in 50 years that this event will be here, so don't miss out on this rare opportunity!

Because the Greater Houston Dental Society is working with the ADA for this event, they will not be hosting their annual Star of the South Dental Meeting next year. This means that it will be a while until there's another opportunity to volunteer at a dental convention!! As a volunteer, you will receive a free pass to SmileCon to network, get exposed to new dental technology, and possibly attend CE classes among other dental professionals. One of these classes includes a Women in Dentistry Leadership series!

Project Saving Smiles (Volunteering Event) 

The Women's Dental Association at UH will be volunteering at SmileCon 2022, a dental event hosted by the American Dental Association (ADA)! This is the ultimate event for dental professionals, and many dentists from all over the country will be attending this conference. Participate & get your face recognized! IF WDA WILL BE GOING FOR BOTH DAYS, we will be providing transportion Thursday night for the Friday and Saturday shifts. For those only with Saturday shifts, carpool would leave Friday afternoon.
We would be staying at the hotel FRIDAY NIGHT and leaving Saturday evening. 
We will be splitting the costs for the hotel, and the cost will vary depending on people per room.
